Pardon
has been granted to cultists that were involved in the killings of Ebubu
community after they submitted weapons to the Peace and Reconciliation
Committee.
The
Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council in Rivers State, Hon. Orji Ngofa, granted
the pardon during a thanksgiving service held at Assemblies of Christ
World-Wide Church.
He said
the cultists were given pardon in a bid to allow peace to reign in the
community, adding they submitted over 24 weapons and ammunition including AK 47
rifle to the committee.
The chairman
said that in an effort to rehabilitate the former cultists, that his
administration will engage them in activities that will benefit them and also
provide employment for the successful ones that would scale through the
training that would be provided.
He
however, warned youths of the area to desist from acts of cultism and other
criminal activities, stressing that such acts will only bring disunity and
lawlessness in the community.
Speaking
to some of the former cultist, they said they were happy with the pardon and
the opportunity the chairman has given them to turn a new leaf while promising
to ensure that they would do all in their power to bring back peace and unity
in the local government area.
The
President of Ebubu Youth Council, Mr. Atonse Obari Oginja said he will work to
ensure the eradication of Cultism in the area and initiate ventures that will
benefit them.
He promised
to partner and liaise with the Local Government Council to ensure Youths of the
area stay away from cultism and put in place mechanism that will sustain long
lasting peace in the area.
