I would have blamed this on the continued commercial use of motorcycles commonly known as 'Okada', but i had a second thought.
Lagos state government had wanted to ban the use of okada as is the case in many states in Nigeria now, but for the outcry from the okada riders and their customers, it peddled down a little.
But like i said, i wanted to blame this on the okada man but after hearing how the sad event happened, i got to know that it was the okada man trying to manoeuvre his way through while the trailer carrying sharp sand was tripping over.
It happened yesterday evening at Ijoju, Sango Ota in Lagos and instantly left the two dead.

7 Feared Dead as Building Collapses in Abia State

There is report that a building yesterday collapsed in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State late in the evening that has 7 persons feared dead.

The persons were engulfed in the collapsed building since last night and attempts from Red Cross and other voluntary individuals have yielded no result in saving them from the rubble.

Rivers Youth Movement Passes Vote Of Confidence On Amaechi

Rivers Youth Movement (RYM) worldwide numbering over two million on Friday, May 10th, pledged their support and loyalty to the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

RYM also passed a vote of confidence on the Rivers State Governor for his landmark achievements in the state.

President-General of the Rivers Youth Movement, Engr. Richard Alete briefing pressmen said the movement would continue to support good leadership as demonstrated by Governor Amaechi.

This year has been experiencing heavy downpour and when you would think that it is slowing down, it sets in again.
The poor man whose picture who will be viewing soon, Adeolu Adeleke, 52,met his death at Marina Car Park, Lagos Island at the hands of  a communication mast last Friday while he was securing his goods from the rain. He was a trader, a father, husband and a breadwinner to a family that will not have that opportunity anymore.

Nwachukwu Ozioko known as Vast in their Bracket record label is or i would love to say, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma (cancer of the blood), and had been having  symptoms of continuous coughing, weight loss, body pains, headaches and weakness and went for a diagnose in a hospital in Nigeria that took over 3 months to come out with the result, which by then had spread to his liver.

Actress Ngozi Nwosu Back to the Country Fully Recovered

This is about one of the best news i have heard today. Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu had been critically sick that she needed a transplant to fully recover from kidney and heart related ailments and with the alms from good meaning Nigerians who donated N2 million and the government of Lagos State raising the remaining N4 million, she had that opportunity and today she is with us in the country stronger than she left it.

Armed Thugs Besiege Rivers State House of Assembly

The Hallow Chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly was on Monday 6th May, besieged by armed thugs who according to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree, was carried out under the command of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu.

Issuing a press statement, the Speaker said,

“We have severally alerted the state and the world of the commencement of the planned gradual collapse of security and democratic structures of our state and called for the transfer of the Commissioner of Police Mr  Mbu Joseph Mbu.

On May 6, 2013 our democracy suffered a serious setback. Despite our earlier warning the Rivers State House of Assembly complex which is directly adjacent the Police headquarters, Moscow Road witnessed a violent and disruptive takeover by over 300 thugs under the watchful eyes of Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, who shut the gates of the police headquarters and made it impossible for a formal report to be lodged, while police operatives working at the assembly complex were ordered to stay away, while the siege lasted.

In recent past, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu had ordered 250 policemen, accompanied by two armored personnel carriers to storm Isale Oyo area of Oyo state and SEALED the palace of the ASHIPA of Oyo without any court orders, embarrassing and infuriating the Inspector General Of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar . Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu was hurriedly transferred to Rivers State - a man with a track record of invading and desecrating constituted authorities,” he said.

The Rivers State House of Assembly postponed its legislative sitting slated for Monday, 6th May, 2013 on the basis of insecurity and life threat decried by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree.

In a press release, the Speaker said,  

“Fellow citizens of Rivers State and Nigerians, Two(2) days ago, we warned of the commencement of the planned gradual collapse of security and democratic structures of our state.

In their avowed resolve to destabilize the state, a series of planned protest has been concluded by the Abuja based politicians with the collaboration of some politicians and security agencies in the state with effect from 6^th may 2013 as a continuation of the operation storm Rivers.

Consequent upon the above, and as your elected representatives determined to save the democratic structures of the state, lives and properties do state as follows;

Eleme LG Chairman Grant Pardon To Cultists

Pardon has been granted to cultists that were involved in the killings of Ebubu community after they submitted weapons to the Peace and Reconciliation Committee.

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council in Rivers State, Hon. Orji Ngofa, granted the pardon during a thanksgiving service held at Assemblies of Christ World-Wide Church.

He said the cultists were given pardon in a bid to allow peace to reign in the community, adding they submitted over 24 weapons and ammunition including AK 47 rifle to the committee.

Rivers State Commissioner for Works Debunk Defective Report On Slaughter/Woji Bridge

Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Victor Giadom, has debunked a social Media report claiming a construction defect of Slaughter/Woji bridge.

The commissioner said this while on a fact finding trip to the bridge with a team of Engineers at slaughter, Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt.

He also disclosed that the State Government did a routine maintenance on the bridge in 2010 through Stemco Nigeria Ltd. Saying that it was surprising that people would make up stories that are false about the stable construction.

Hon. Giadom further disclosed that his Ministry would soon construct a new dual-carriage bridge by the side to beef up the existing ones, stressing that, “it is in good state and may be used for beautification on completion of the new one.”

Rivers State Government Confirms Okrika, Degema Will Be Flooded

Rivers State Government has said that with the incessant heavy rainfall that has been occurring in the state, that Okrika and Degema local Government Areas of the state as predicted by Federal Ministry of Environment would be experiencing another flooding this year. 

Rivers State Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr. Dickson Umunakwe made this known in an emergency meeting with the Chairmen of last year’s flood prone Local Government Areas of the State.

The meeting according to him was to alert the Chairmen of the imminent flood so as to take proactive measures geared towards reducing the impact associated with the disaster.

He urged them to take the flood alert to their people and set up relief committees who will establish camps in their various LGAs before the rain steps in.

Speaking on the part the state government would play, he said they will make provision for marine ambulances and speed boats that would transport the would-be flood victims to the government designated camps.
