Rivers Legislator, Golden Chioma Kidnapped

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of one of the members of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Golden Chioma by yet to be identified gunmen. 

The Command’s spokesman, Mohammed Ahmad, stated that Golden was kidnapped in Diobu, Port Harcourt around 8 pm on Tuesday.
He also disclosed that investigations have started on the matter.

He said: “Yes it is true that the honourable member representing one of the constituencies in the Rivers State Chamber, Hon. Chioma Golden, was kidnapped and we have received the report of his kidnap.
“We have put in place all the mechanism available at our disposal to ensure that we rescue him safely”, he said.

Hon. Chioma Golden, a member of the All Progressives Congress and Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary represents Etche Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The appearance of the Commissioner for Water Resources, Patricia Simon Hart, before the State Assembly over the $280 million loan-seeking by the government was stalled today following the kidnap of the member representing Etche Constituency, Chioma Golden.

The lawmakers were supposed to be briefed this morning by the commissioner for water resources on the areas where the new water loan would be spent as well as how previous allocations were spent by the state government on water projects.

None of the lawmakers showed up today at old auditorium of the government house scheduled for the meeting.

The leadership of the assembly are yet to react or confirm the abduction.
