Friday Agi
Rivers State Police
command has confirmed the death of one student in the unfortunate ghost scare
incident which took place last week Wednesday at about 3.00 am at the
Rumuolumeni campus of the Rivers State Ignatius Ajuru University of Education,
Port Harcourt.
The Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), was quoted as saying that only one student died in
the tragic incident while six others who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital
for treatment.
According to the
university spokesperson, four students
who were injured in the event of the ghost scare were quickly rushed to
University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) where they were been
treated.
Similarly, the Public
Relations Officer of the institution, Mrs Ngozi Okiridu, also confirmed that
only one male student died.
But a source who chose
anonymity said that two students, male and female died in the scare.
Meanwhile the
authorities of the university defied the incident and organized a matriculation
ceremony for her new students.
It would be recalled
that around 3am on Wednesday, a student raised alarm on the appearance of a
ghost that caused stampede which led to the death of at least a student.
Students were said to
have jumped out of the window to avert being left behind in the school
premises.
One of the students who
recounted what happened said the students heard a vibration which was
interpreted to mean the presence of an evil spirit and they started running.
The stampede left a student identified as Charles (Pictured above) of the
Department of French dead instantly.
In a chat with the public
relations officer of the National Union of the Rivers State Students (NURSS),
Ignatius Ajuru University Chapter, Deezia Burabari Sunday, said they were
reading and fell asleep and at about 3.00, a strange apparition started coming
in through one of the doors.
Deezia said that a
similar incident happened last year in the same campus of the institution and
fortunately, no life was lost.
Some students said that
the absence of power supply aided in the unfortunate event.
They therefore called
on the governor to give priority to the welfare of the students.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ngozi
said that the students who were injured are now in stable condition.
