Rivers State Commissioner
for Water Resources, Ms Patricia Simon-Hart, has affirmed Government’s
intention of providing potable drinking water supply for residents of Eleme Community
through its water project scheme.
Ms Simon-Hart made
this known last week when she held a sensitization meeting with the Council
chairman, Hon Orji Ngofa, represented by the council Secretary and members of
the Council, at a town hall in Eleme, the Council Headquarters. She stressed the
commitment of state government in establishing a small town water project that
will serve five communities within the area.
She added that a
Water Consumer Association (WCA), which will comprise of members from the five
benefitting communities, would be setup in the area.
She explained
that the role of the association would be to educate and sensitise the people
of Eleme on ways of maintaining the existing facilities provided by Government.
Responding to the
new development, the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Hon Orji
Ngofa, represented by the council Secretary, Bright Sanwi, thanked the State
Government for the much awaited water project.
He promised that
the people of Eleme will co-operate with them in ensuring that the project
becomes a reality.
