Rivers
State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps with Youth Corp members
posted to Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, has commended the efforts of Mr.
Theodore Georgewill and Hon. Onari Brown for providing them with good and
enabling environment for their service year.
During
a familiarization visit paid to the Council on Wednesday, 13th February 2013, at
Abonnema, Headquarter of the L.G., the State Coordinator, Mrs. Josephine Onoghae,
thanked the council for the new Corpers Lodge.
“Providing
an enabling environment which in this case is the provision of a modem Corpers
Lodge will not only take care of the financial burdens a corper undergoes in
paying for an apartment, but it will also give the corper the spirit to do his
best knowing that he has a comfortable home to come back to at the end of his
work,” Onoghae said.
She
gave special thanks to Honourable member representing Akuku-Toru constituency
I at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Onari Brown, for solely proving
the state of the art Corpers Lodge for corpers posted to the area.
She
said that the act was worthy of emulation and encouraged other well meaning individuals
to find joy in carrying out such act to humanity.
Mrs.
Onoghae also commended the Council Chairman, Theodore Georgewill, for his
interest and assistance to the corpers whenever they needed assistance of the
council.
She
however pleaded with him to help in securing the Lodge for complete peace of
mind of corpers lodging there.
“The
corpers lodge itself is quite beautiful and very comfortable for corpers to
lodge. The only area that we have concern in is in its security. We plead that
the Chairman and the council do provide adequate security to the place to
secure the life and property of these corpers,” She said.
Onoghae
while addressing the corpers encouraged them to reciprocate the good gestures
from the council boss and the Assembly Member.
“It is very important that you give your best
in the service of the area that you are posted to serve. One of the basic needs
of man which gives him peace of mind is his shelter. Now you have it and so I
encourage you to reciprocate the good deeds done by the Council Chairman and to
the Honourable Member by giving nothing short of your best,” she added.
She
also admonished the corpers to desist from anything that would tarnish their
image and bring shame to their families and the state in general. She added
that they should take their primary assignment seriously in order to leave
legacies behind for the community they served and also to be security
conscious.
The Chairman
of the Council, Mr. Theodore Georgewill, in his response thanked Mrs. Onoghae
and members of the corp for coming to Akuku-Toru and assured her that the
council will always assist corp members posted to the area.
Georgewill
also commended Onari’s move in providing for the Corpers Lodge while assuring
the State Coordinator that adequate security will be provided at the lodge.
He
pleaded with her to post medical doctors that will assist people in the model
health centres built by the State Government.
“We thank
you for always proving us with corp members that serve in the Local Goverment
Council. But we have an appeal to make, and the appeal is that you send us
medical doctors to serve in the good hospitals that state government has
provided for the community. This way, the community will have access to quality
health care,” he finished.
Reacting,
Hon. Onari Brown who was represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor
on Fisheries, Mr. Alapuye Cotterel, said that the deed was as a result
of him carrying out his legislative duties as the Member representing
Akuku-Toru II at the State Assembly.
He
said, ‘‘The lodge was considered due to the fact that it will go a long way in
making our corp members comfortable, which will in turn enable them serve the
Local Government Area better.’’
