Rivers
State Government has asserted its decision to continue helping victims of last
year flood in Rivers State so as to ameliorate their condition.
Commissioner
for Special Duties and Member of the Flood Relief Committee, Barr. Dickson
Umunakwe, gave the assurance on Friday, 1st February 2013, while handing over
farm seedlings to the Chairman of Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, and
Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni at their respective LGA headquarters for onward distribution
to farmers.
He
noted that the situation was a reflection of love and care from Governor
Ameachi who according to him was not meant for the state indigenes affected by flood
alone, but for all the affected people in the State, hence urging the chairmen
to ensure equitable distribution of the items.
The
farm relief items included bundles of Cassava stems, Yams, Banana and Plantain
Suckers.
The
L.G. Chairmen expressed their gratitude while assuring him of even distribution
of the seedlings and food items.
In
another development, the Special Duties boss during his unscheduled visit to
Ahoada Fire Station gave seven days ultimatum to those that encroached on the
fire station land at Ahoada to vacate or face legal action.
He
added that the Ministry would embark on the fencing of the premises.
