The critical position of Hon. Kelechi Nwogu on the
decision of the Rivers State House of Assembly to honour Governor Rotimi
Chibike Amaechi has pitched the lawmaker against the people of his local
government area.
Hon. Nwogu who is the law maker representing Omuma
Constituency at the State Assembly, last Thursday opposed the House’ decision
to pass a vote of confidence on the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for the
tremendous developmental strides of the governor in the state as perceived by
some of his colleagues in the House.
The confidence vote was a deliberate action by the
House to defend Amaechi by way of countering the move by governor’s political
foes to discredit him in the face of the scramble in 2015.
To this end, the people of Omuma at the weekend,
declared the action of their legislator, Kelechi, who refused to join other
members of the House to support the confidence vote and move to honour Amaechi
for his achievements as governor of the state as self serving had expressed
shock at the action.
A press statement signed by the chairman of Omuma
local government council, Hon. John Nnamdi Anucha, member of the State Executive
Council and Commissioner for Special
Duties, Barr. Dickson Umunakwe and two others representing the People
Democratic Party, said Hon. Kelechi acted unilaterally and did not speak the
minds of the people of the area. Click on read more to continue reading...
According to the statement, “The good people of
Omuma are indeed taken aback at the selfish and self-serving motive of Hon.
Kelechi Nwogu, who it must be stated on authority, does not represent the
generality of the opinion of Omuma people, who have always unequivocally declared
their immeasurable support for governor Chibuike Amaechi.”
“The good people of Omuma,” the statement continued,
“wish to make it clear that Hon. Kelechi Nwogu does not represent the interest
and opinion, neither does he have the mandate of Omuma people to vote against
our dear governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
We wish to unequivocally disassociate the good
people of Omuma constituency from the action of Hon. Kelechi, who was clearly
acting the script of his pay-master.”
The statement further said that, “The entire people
of Omuma are in total support of the Executive Governor of Rivers State,
Chibuike Amaechi and assure him of our loyalty and unhindered support now and
in all his future endeavours.”
Hon. Nwogu of Omuma was not the only lawmaker that
rejected the motion to honour Amaechi. Other honourable members that opposed the
motion on the floor of the House were, Hon Michael Chinda representing
Obio/Akpor constituency II, Hon. Micheal Okechukwu Chinda and Hon. Martins Amaewhule
representing Obio/Akpor Constituency I.
