Tragedy struck at Mgbuoshimini in Obio/Akpor local government
area of Rivers State, last week Wednesday where a housewife allegedly gruesome murder
of her husband through hired assassins.
The woman whose name was given as Ada Chukwu by a
family source allegedly plotted the killing of her husband at their residence
because her husband wanted to take a second wife.
The deceased, Chief Kingsley Chukwu, who was before
his death a contractor with the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, was said to have
been murdered inside house at his hometown, Mgbuoshimini.
We learnt that hired assassins were hidden in the
deceased bedroom by his wife, Ada in wait for the return of Kingsley.
According to the family source, the deceased
returned home very late, at about 11.45pm that fateful day. After taking his
favourite meal prepared for him by his wife, he feel into a deep sleep.
Shortly afterwards, they assassins pounced on him
and hacked him to death. Unfortunaltely in an attempt to escape shortly after
the operation, one of the assassins was arrested by a vigilante group with
bloodstained clothes.
When interrogated by the vigilante group, he
confessed he confessed to have been coming from an operation where Chief
Kingsley Chukwu was killed.
The assassins was later handed over to the Police.
Like a dramatic scene in a Nollywood movie, the
woman on getting to the Police station to report the event was informed that
one of the killers of her husband had been arrested, she fainted on the spot
having sighted one of the assassins, a development sources said betrayed her
complicity in the crime.
On interrogation by the Police, she confessed to the
Police, saying that she did what she did because her husband wanted to bring in
a second wife.
She also accused the deceased of having extramarital
affairs with other women. But a family member source who spoke in anonymity
said that it was the woman, who has been involved in extramarital affairs, a development
which the deceased husband had to cause to complain to members of her family to
advice her to stop indulging in the shameful act.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have
deposited Kingsley Chukwu’s corpse in the mortuary for further Police
investigation.
It would be recalled that in April 1993, a similar murder
incident took place in Rumueme in the same Obio/Akpor local government area,
where an elder statesman, Senator Obi Wali, was gruesomely murdered by unknown
assassins inside his bedroom, through the conspiracy of one of his wives.
In the revealing stories, Obi Wali’s younger wife was
said to have conspired with hired assassins to kill the husband.
Investigation revealed that the assassins were
hidden inside a wardrobe in Obi Wali’s bedroom with the help of his younger
wife.
Obi’s death was one of the numerous murder incidents
in the state that were never unraveled by the security agents.
