United and appointed office holders as well as stakeholders
in Port Harcourt Local Government Area have expressed fears that the current
political crisis may damage economic activities in the area.
The stakeholders in a communiqué at the end of a
meeting in Port Harcourt also expressed concerns over renewed state of
insecurity in the state.
The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Chimbiko Akarolo, read
the communiqué and called for the redeployment of Rivers State Commissioner of
Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu,.
“We condemn in very strong terms the unwarranted
utterances by the state commissioner of Police, Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu, which in our
view is an assault not only to the exalted office of the governor, the chief
security officer of the state, but also to the peace and generality of the
peace and loving people in Rivers state.
The stakeholders in Port Harcourt in the communiqué described
the perceived political rift between President Goodluck Jonathan and Govenor
Amaechi as the handwork of some desperate politicians.
“We are loyal to the President and Commander in Chief
of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan (GCFR). That we pledge our unflagging support and loyalty to our dear
brother and son, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (CON), the Executive Governor
of Rivers state and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum.
“That the imaginary faceoff between the president
and our dear governor is a creation of few Abuja based Rivers politicians.”
