The Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Rivers State has sounded it loud and clear that the All
Progressives Congress (APC) led government in the state would give account of
all its actions in government.
Secretary to the PDP
Media Committee, Opunankubo Onkutaria said this in reaction to the planned
conduct of local government elections on May 23.
Onkutaria warned that
Rivers people would demand how the state resources were being spent.
“It is callous that while workers are being owed for months,
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of the state is more concerned with putting billions of
naira into the local government elections in disobedience to a restraining
court order. We feel in the PDP that Amaechi wants to use this election to
justify his financial recklessness and money spent on APC campaign machinery. I
promise you that this executive rascality cannot go with impunity. He shall
account for every kobo when the need arises,” Onkutaria said.
He further alleged that
the planned local government election was a mere cover up for expenses incurred
by the APC in the last general elections.
“The fear of exposure
is responsible for not setting up a transition committee. And he is also not
ready for the transition because up till now he has not been able to cover up
for the financial misappropriation for the last for years. We want to assure
him that when the new government comes on board and Amaechi’s government is
found wanting financially or in any other way, of course he will be made to
account for every kobo,” he said.
