The Rivers State Police
Command has ordered the restriction of movement of vehicles across the state
between 10pm today, May 22, to 6am tomorrow, May 23 and also from 9am to 6pm tomorrow
ahead of the scheduled local government election in the state.
A statement signed by
the State Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Muhammed, said the restriction was to
ensure that the election was conducted in a peaceful manner across the state
before, during and after the election.
The statement said
policemen posted for the electioneering duty have been briefed on their roles
as stipulated in the Electoral Act and that they were
expected to be professional, unpartisan but civil.
The statement also
called on the residents in the state to be vigilant and report all unlawful
activities or dealings to the nearest police stations.
