The Rivers State Police Command has ordered the restriction of movement of vehicles across the state between 10pm today, May 22, to 6am tomorrow, May 23 and also from 9am to 6pm tomorrow ahead of the scheduled local government election in the state.

A statement signed by the State Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Muhammed, said the restriction was to ensure that the election was conducted in a peaceful manner across the state before, during and after the election.

The statement said policemen posted for the electioneering duty have been briefed on their roles as stipulated in the Electoral Act and that they were expected to be professional, unpartisan but civil.

The statement also called on the residents in the state to be vigilant and report all unlawful activities or dealings to the nearest police stations.
