The Rivers
State House of Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt which has been under lock and
key since July 10, 2013 after the free-for-all fight involving lawmakers, is
expected to be re-opened for legislative business on Monday, June 1, 2015 when
the Governor-elect of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike will proclaim the eighth
assembly.
Since the
closure, 25 lawmakers loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi have been holding
plenary at Government House in Port Harcourt.
According
to a programme of events for Wike’s inauguration, an inauguration
Church Service will hold on Sunday, May 26 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Garrison,
Port Harcourt.
A public lecture on good governance will follow on Tuesday at Aztech
Arcum, Stadium Road, Port Harcourt, while Wednesday will feature a novelty
football match at Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt and a variety night at Polo
Club, G.R.A Phase II, Port Harcourt in the evening.
Wike and the deputy governor will be sworn in at the Liberation
Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt at 8.30am on May 29. That will make Wike the
fourth governor of the state to be inaugurated at the Liberation Stadium, after
Dr Peter Odili, Sir Celestine Omehia and Chibuike Amaechi.
A post inauguration thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday at
Salvation Ministries, G.R.A Phase II, Port Harcourt.
