Wike Transition Committee Discovers Frivolous Transactions by RSG

The transition committee of governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, said it has uncovered some financial transaction hurriedly done by the administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

The secretary of the transition committee, Frank Owor raised the alarm while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt.

He said some of the transactions were not captured in the budget. He also alleged that some of the transactions involved payment of contractors  in for works not yet done.

He said: “The transition committee of the governor-elect of Rivers State has received reports of lewd financial transactions by the out-going governor of Rivers State. Some of these transactions were neither provided for in the state budget nor do they have the necessary cash backings. In some instances contractors are being paid in advance for work not yet done or anticipated to be done.
"The refusal of the Rivers State Government to constitute a transition committee to intercept with that of the governor-elect has created a loophole that is being exploited by corrupt and scrupulous political appointees to the detriment of the people of Rivers State," he added.
Owor also advised financial institutions not to engage in transactions with the outgoing government.

“The transition committee wishes to advise financial institutions to refrain from being part of any dubious financial or commercial transaction whether involving certificate of occupancy, award of contracts that are based in payment on advances. Any person entering into any such financial commitment involved in the back dating of contracts and other commercial transactions have themselves to blame for consequences.

"Political office holders are also advised to be circumspect in their last minute dealings as there is no immunity for them whether in or out of office. For the avoidance of doubt, the incoming administration will not honour any fictitious transaction done or purported to be done,” Owor added.
